Where is the border between being a technical writer and being an information developer? We know that humans a visual beings. As such we tend to perceive information presented in a visual way much faster and easier.

No wonder that today people spend so much time on social media channels to consume visual types of information - enjoying photos and watching videos.

But how does this affect the world of technical writers? Do we have to feel like dinosaurs who try to still struggle to write content that helps the users?

I still see that often technical writers tend to forget that technical writing is not so much about writing! It is about helping our users and customers! This is how we become information developers and user assistance developers!

Today more and more technical writers understand the need of being able to deliver the information in an easy to use format - the modern technical writer uses graphics, images and videos to deliver the information in the best possible way ensuring that the content is easily understood and followed by the user.

I believe that the ability of the technical writer to deliver information not only as written text, but also as instructional image or video gives the technical writer wings to fly.

And that makes us not so much dinosaurs but at least some sort of dragons, getting the users of the software to the next level of ease of information consumption!
